OUR STORY

Rooted in Respect.
Built with Purpose.

At BC Home Builders, great craftsmanship is in our blood. We believe true success is built on trust, experience, and a commitment to quality. And we know that working with a great team makes all the difference. Meet the people who make it all happen.

Since 2018, our team has delivered hundreds of successful projects across Greater Victoria, backed by over 100 years of combined expertise in construction and project management. Founder Matt Doyle grew up woodworking in his father’s workshop where he developed a lasting appreciation for craftsmanship, detail, and doing things right. After honing his skills in renovations and custom home building in Squamish and Vancouver’s North Shore, Matt returned to his Island roots to build a company grounded in integrity, care, and lasting relationships.

Today, we bring that same passion to every project, embracing the fact that no two homes—or clients—are ever the same. We put people first—prioritizing both the client experience and the finished product—while moving with urgency, focus, and attention to detail. Every project is an opportunity to grow responsibly, work collaboratively, and help our clients realize their goals.

Matt Doyle, Owner & CEO

With over 25 years of experience building homes across British Columbia, Matt Doyle brings expertise, passion, and a hands-on approach to every project. A Red Seal Carpenter and seasoned General Contractor, his work spans custom homes, major renovations, and multi-unit developments throughout Greater Vancouver, Squamish, and Greater Victoria. Matt is known for his client-focused mindset and practical creativity, especially when it comes to budget-conscious construction. His leadership style is collaborative and grounded, ensuring that every project is completed with quality craftsmanship and clear communication.

As the CEO of BCHB, Matt oversees all aspects of the company’s operations — guiding a skilled team, managing resources, and setting the standard for excellence in residential construction. He takes great pride in the work his team delivers and the relationships they build along the way.

Outside of work, Matt is an adventurer at heart. He’s travelled the world to climb, surf, and explore — though these days, his time is happily split between his family and growing the BCHB legacy here in Victoria.

Paul Hempstock, Project Lead

Born and raised on the mainland, Paul has called Victoria home with his wife and two kids since 2016. He is a Red Seal carpenter and has extensive experience in home renovation, tenant improvements and new home construction. Over his career, he’s contributed to projects ranging in value from $2,000 to $34 million — always with the same focus on quality and efficiency.

Paul has a solution-oriented and positive attitude on site, and you will often find him at the centre of the action making sure the project is done correctly, efficiently, on time and on budget. His leadership and hands-on approach make him a trusted point of contact for both clients and trades.

When he’s not on the job site, you can find him volunteering at many community events with St John Ambulance, working on his home or cheering on his kids at one of their many activities.

Jordan Ford, Project Lead

Jordan brings over 12 years of renovation experience to the BCHB team, along with a deep passion for creative problem-solving and design. Jordan relocated to the island from Ontario where he owned and operated a small contracting business. The thing he loves about renovations is the transformation process, turning something old into new — and the excitement it brings to clients. He is particularly interested in the design and development of unique spaces. One of his favourite projects was the conversion of an old VIA rail caboose into a fully functional and stylish AirBnB — a testament to his creativity and attention to detail.

When he’s not leading projects on-site, Jordan can be found exploring the Island’s trails and coastlines with his wife and their two dogs. A passionate outdoorsman and sports fan, he also competes in ultra-marathons and is always up for his next adventure.

Dawson Harris, Carpenter

Dawson is a third-year carpentry apprentice with a strong drive to learn and grow in the trade. He’s currently studying at Camosun College and working toward his Red Seal designation. Dawson brings energy, attention to detail, and a genuine passion for the craft to every project.

Dawson enjoys the scope of work that renovations provide, as well as the sense of community and family that comes with BCHB — and the wonderful people we have the chance to build for.

He is especially drawn to the dynamic nature of renovation work, where every day presents something new to learn and solve. His enthusiasm and commitment make him a valuable part of the BCHB team.

Outside of work, Dawson enjoys sport climbing, baseball, and photography — always finding ways to stay active and creative.

Stephen White, Carpenter

Stephen is a talented carpenter with a strong focus on finishing work, including the precise installation of doors, casings, baseboards, closet shelving, and more. With experience in both new construction and renovation projects, he brings craftsmanship, care, and a keen eye for detail to every job.

He thrives in the supportive and growth-focused environment at BCHB, where continuous learning and striving for excellence are part of the team culture. Stephen appreciates the opportunity to challenge himself daily and take pride in delivering high-quality work to clients.

When he’s not on the job site, Stephen can usually be found on the water in his kayak. Whether it's a river, lake, or ocean, he enjoys breathing in the beauty of nature.

Jack Larin, Carpenter

Jack is a dedicated carpenter who thrives in the dynamic, fast-paced environment of residential construction. He values the variety each day brings at BCHB — from solving new challenges to learning hands-on and refining his craft. With a strong support system on-site and a team-oriented atmosphere, Jack is proud to be part of a crew that encourages continuous development and high standards. He brings a thoughtful, detail-oriented approach to his work and takes pride in contributing to projects that reflect quality and care.

In his free time, Jack can be found outdoors—whether it’s on trips or hikes—he dedicates as much time as possible to his family. He is also passionate about cars, fishing, and web development, always finding ways to stay creative and active.

Jen Allen, Client Services & Administration Manager

Jen is often the first point of contact at BCHB and plays a vital role in keeping the behind-the-scenes operations running smoothly. With over 15 years of experience in the humanitarian sector — both in Canada and abroad — she has supported people impacted by emergencies and crises around the world. She now brings that same compassion, adaptability, and leadership to the residential construction industry.

At BCHB, Jen’s strengths in coordination, process improvement, and clear communication help ensure that every project stays organized and on track. She values the complexity and variety that each build brings and thrives in the collaborative, supportive culture of the team.

Outside of work, Jen shares a love of adventure with her family. Whether it’s hiking, climbing, swimming, or kayaking, she enjoys exploring new places and reconnecting with nature’s rhythm.

J.R. de Montmorency, Client Services & Project Coordinator

Born and raised in the Westshore and Shawnigan Lake areas, JR developed a love for construction early on. From helping his parents renovate the family bathroom and a full home addition, and spending countless hours in his grandfather’s woodshop, he nurtured his passion for building and craftsmanship.

JR joined the family glass business while continuing to take on renovation projects on the side. He spent over 15 years in the glass industry before a shoulder injury led him to explore other paths. Eventually, he found his way back to the construction world, working as a project manager with a company that partnered on several projects with BCHB. JR stepped back from project management to pursue a new venture related to residential housing, and in the summer of 2025, he joined BCHB, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a strong focus on client relations.

When not working for BCHB or his own company, you can find JR tending to a roaring fire and exploring with his daughter the Cowichan valley or the Kootenay Boundary District, where JR plans to retire to one day.

Jolene, Head of Security (and Belly Rubs)

Jolene is the heart and soul of the BCHB office — often found watching the world go by from the front window of our North Park office or greeting visitors with a friendly tail wag (and maybe a gentle bark). Always ready to shake a paw in exchange for a treat, Jolene brings a dose of joy and calm to the hustle of the workday.

She embraces the dynamic nature of life at BCHB — whether she’s welcoming clients, riding along to job sites, or napping in the middle of the office floor. With her adventurous spirit and easygoing charm, Jolene helps to keep things light.
